ISAM accomplishes this by assimilating safety requirements as reactor systems are conceptualised and designed. The methodology is useful not only for the Gen IV technology development cycle but also for the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) concept and design development.

In this Webinar, which is a preview of the in-person workshop for G4SR-2 international conference in 2021, Dr. Thambiayah (Nithy) Nitheanandean, Director, Engineering Design Assessment Division, CNSC, is an ISAM expert and will introduce ISAM concept, provide examples of Gen IV advanced reactors applications, and list some relevant work from Generation IV Risk and Safety Working Group (RSWG).

Integrated Safety Assessment Methodology

Date: August 20th, 2020

Location: via webex

Time: 10:00-11:30 am EDT time

Co-hosts:

· Ron Oberth, President & CEO, OCNI

· Wilson Lam, G4SR-2 Chair, Canadian Nuclear Society

Speaker:

· Dr. Thambiayah (Nithy) Nitheanandean, Director, Engineering Design Assessment Division, CNSC\\

Registration is required, register HERE

Webinar Content:

There are five main tools in ISAM, namely, (1) Qualitative Safety Features Review (QSR), (2) Phenomena Identification and Ranking Table (PIRT), (3) Objective Provision Tree (OPT), (4) Deterministic and Phenomenological Analyses (DPA), and (5) Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA). Each tool is intended to be used in answering specific safety-related questions in diverse degrees of detail and during different stages of design maturity. The ISAM tools is expected to be used throughout the concept development and design phases to derive insights to influence the course of the design evolution. The application of these tools would yield an objective understanding of risk contributors, effectiveness of safety-related design provisions, sources and impacts of uncertainties, and other safety-related issues that are important for a successful design. The tools also present a measure of design maturity, in terms of the level of safety and risk associated with the conceptual design relative to safety objectives.

Cisco Webex is optimized for use in most browsers, for those using Chrome you may need to add the Cisco extension to ensure full access to the webinar.

OCNI virtual events are a benefit of membership.
